About the workshop

Enjoy the learning Pattachitra painting  "Jagannath Darshan: A Divine Assembly" using traditional motifs and techniques with national awardee artist Mr. Bhaskar Mohapatra

Pattachitra is an ancient art form from Odisha, India, dating back to the 12th century. Artists, called Chitrakars, use 100% natural colors from conch shells and minerals to create intricate paintings on various surfaces like cloth, palm leaves, wood, and jewelry. The art depicts Hindu mythological stories, particularly around Lord Jagannath, Vaishnavism, and local folk tales, reflecting Odia tradition. Evolving, Pattachitra adapted to British and European tastes in the 19th century, preserving its rich legacy with vibrant colors and intricate details, offering a captivating visual representation of Odia culture.

Jagannath Darshan: A Divine Assembly: This painting portrays Lord Jagannath, a cherished form of Krishna, enthroned in divine magnificence, with his large, circular eyes and distinctive face symbolizing infinity and compassion. Executed in the Pattachitra style, the artwork is replete with intricate details and vibrant hues, featuring his siblings Balabhadra and Subhadra to amplify the sacred atmosphere. Decorative floral motifs and celestial elements enhance the scene's grandeur, while devotees like Garuda and Hanuman express deep reverence at his feet. The golden frame and Sanskrit inscriptions underscore the painting's divine and scriptural significance, embodying devotion, spiritual harmony, and the enduring presence of Lord Jagannath.
