About the workshop

Create a beautiful "Krishna Vastraharan Leela: Golden Theme" in Phad painting. Learn from our master artist, Mr. Kalyan Joshi, a national award-winning artist from Rajasthan. He will teach the techniques and motifs of the art form and help you create a beautiful painting characterized by its bold colours and intricate designs.

Phad Painting - Phad Painting or Phad is a style of religious scroll painting and folk painting, practiced in the state of India. This style of painting is traditionally done on a long piece of cloth or canvas, known as a phad. The narratives of the folk deities of Rajasthan, mostly of Pabuji and Devnarayan, are depicted on the phads.

Krishna Vastraharan Leela: Golden Theme: This Phad painting illustrates the divine leela of Krishna Vastraharan Leela, a famous story from the life of Lord Krishna. In this scene, Krishna is shown seated on a tree, playfully holding the clothes of the Gopis while they stand in the river below. Gopis were bathing in the Yamuna River when Krishna mischievously took their garments to teach them a lesson in devotion and surrender. The raised hands of the Gopis symbolize humility, faith, and complete dedication to the divine. The tree is richly decorated with intricate floral and patterned designs, reflecting the detailed style of traditional Phad painting. The use of limited earthy colors like ochre, white, and black enhances the folk aesthetic of Rajasthan. The painting beautifully captures devotion, divine playfulness, and the spiritual symbolism of surrender to Lord Krishna.
