About the Workshop

Create this stunning and intricate Pichwai painting of "Symphony of the Sacred Forest" with native artist Mr Rajnish Nimbark. Learn this ancient art form's motifs, techniques, and history under close Rajnishji's guidance.

Pichwai painting: Pichwai painting traces its origins back over 400 years to Nathdwara, near Udaipur in Rajasthan, India. These exquisite artworks, crafted on cloth, are renowned for their intricate details and captivating beauty. Pichwai paintings primarily depict various episodes from the life of Lord Krishna, showcasing scenes from his divine journey and mythological narratives.

"Symphony of the Sacred Forest "This Pichwai painting beautifully portrays a lush, divine forest associated with Shri Nathji’s sacred surroundings, where dense greenery symbolises Vrindavan or Nikunj Van—the celestial garden of Krishna’s leelas. Stylised trees with layered foliage appear in rhythmic repetition, reflecting the traditional Pichwai emphasis on ornamental nature, while small architectural pavilions hidden within the forest suggest royal retreats and divine abodes. Peacocks, deer, birds, and other animals are harmoniously placed to express peace, prosperity, and cosmic balance, and the lotus-filled water body at the base signifies purity, devotion, and spiritual awakening. The absence of a central deity highlights the concept of Bhava, where nature itself embodies Krishna’s presence, and the vibrant floral border reinforces the painting’s ritual and temple-use purpose. Fine detailing, natural pigments, and a balanced, symmetrical composition together showcase the classical craftsmanship of the Nathdwara Pichwai tradition, conveying devotion through serenity, abundance, and the sanctity of nature as Krishna’s eternal playground.
