About the workshop

Create a beautiful "Nauka Vihar: Krishna's Divine Boat Ride " in Madhubani painting. Learn from our native master artist, Ms. Hema Devi, a national award-winning artist from Bihar. She will teach the techniques and motifs of the art form and help you create a beautiful painting characterized by its bold colours and intricate designs.

Madhubani Painting - Madhubani painting, originating from Bihar, India, is a traditional folk art known for its vibrant colors and intricate patterns. Artists use natural dyes and depict Hindu mythology, nature, and daily life scenes. The paintings often feature bold outlines and geometric shapes, creating a unique and visually striking style. Madhubani art has gained international recognition for its cultural richness and storytelling through vivid visuals.

Nauka Vihar: Krishna's Divine Boat Ride: This vibrant artwork depicts the classic Hindu mythological scene of Nauka Vihar, where Lord Krishna takes the Gopis on a boat ride across the river Yamuna. Rendered in the traditional Madhubani style originating from Bihar, the painting features characteristic double-line borders filled with intricate geometric and floral patterns. The artist has utilized the Bharni style of Madhubani, which is defined by the use of rich, vibrant colors to fill the subjects. True to Mithila folk art conventions, the figures are drawn in profile with large, expressive, almond-shaped eyes and sharp noses. The boat itself is uniquely stylized into the form of a majestic swan, a common motif symbolizing grace and divine beauty in Indian iconography. Nature plays a central role in the composition, filling the background with elements like lotus flowers, swimming fish, ducks, and stylized trees to ensure no space is left empty. The meticulous Kachni work visible within the garments and the swan's feathers highlights the painstaking attention to detail that defines this ancient art form.
