About the workshop
Enjoy the learning Pattachitra painting "Divine Power of Maa Kali " using traditional motifs and techniques with national awardee artist Mr. Bhaskar Mohapatra
Pattachitra is an ancient art form from Odisha, India, dating back to the 12th century. Artists, called Chitrakars, use 100% natural colors from conch shells and minerals to create intricate paintings on various surfaces like cloth, palm leaves, wood, and jewelry. The art depicts Hindu mythological stories, particularly around Lord Jagannath, Vaishnavism, and local folk tales, reflecting Odia tradition. Evolving, Pattachitra adapted to British and European tastes in the 19th century, preserving its rich legacy with vibrant colors and intricate details, offering a captivating visual representation of Odia culture.
Divine Power of Maa Kali: This Pattachitra painting beautifully portrays Maa Kali, the powerful goddess of destruction and protection in Hindu mythology. She is depicted with multiple arms, each carrying divine weapons and symbols, representing strength, fearlessness, and cosmic energy. The garland of heads and her fierce appearance symbolize the destruction of ego and evil forces. Lord Shiva is shown beneath her feet, while the lion and the praying devotee add spiritual meaning to the composition. The painting is created in the traditional Odisha Pattachitra style, known for its bold outlines, intricate detailing, and bright natural colors. The decorative floral border, detailed jewelry, and patterned garments enhance the richness and beauty of the artwork. This painting reflects devotion, divine feminine power, and the victory of good over darkness and negativity.
