Geetopdesh in Kerala Mural Art

Kerala Mural paintings are the frescos depicting mythology and legends, which are drawn on the walls of temples and churches in South India from 8th century. This art has overcome the ravages of civilization and time - an authentic Kerala Mural Art is to be treasured for a lifetime as a symbol of natural beauty, grace, elegance and pious devotion.

In this workshop, we're going to make on a very important mythology subject Geetopdesh in Kerala Mural painting with master native artist Mr. Saju M.P, who will take you through the process of creating this beautiful painting using the right traditional motifs and techniques.

"Geetopdesh" refers to the depiction of Lord Krishna delivering the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred Hindu scripture, in Kerala mural art. In these murals, Lord Krishna is often shown imparting spiritual wisdom to the warrior Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. The scene typically features vibrant colors and intricate details, capturing the essence of this profound philosophical discourse. Through the Geetopdesh murals, artists convey the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, emphasizing concepts such as duty, righteousness, and devotion. This theme holds significant cultural and religious importance in Kerala, reflecting the region's deep spiritual heritage.
