Sikki grass crafts are various handicrafts that are made from a special kind of grass known as Sikki found in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, India. The art of making items from Sikki grass is an ancient one in the province of Bihar.
Sikki craft is make out of sikki grass which is beautiful golden in color and hence also called as Golden Grass . Sikki is dried and the flower head is cut off. The resulting fine golden fiber is used in weaving the art of making items from sikki grass is an ancient one in the province of Eastern India. Tharu women in the southern plains of Nepal, have been weaving traditional baskets from sikki grass for centuries. Nowadays, many Tharu women are engaged in producing sikki handicrafts through collaborative networks.
Dilip Kumar has been associated with Sikki Kala for the past 13 years. Currently, he’s running an institution in Bhagalpur district in Bihar to make children learn sikki art. Dilip Ji in his center makes more than 50 students learn this art along with students of NIFT. He is also teaching this Art to Juvenile Prisoners. In this while, he also got the title of Sikki Guru by an NGO named Drishti Vihar. He says, I at least want to deliver this art to 1000 students in the coming days and get them job through this art.
