About the workshop

Create a beautiful "Surya Dev: The Source of Life and Energy " in Madhubani painting. Learn from our native master artist, Ms. Hema Devi, a national award-winning artist from Bihar. She will teach the techniques and motifs of the art form and help you create a beautiful painting characterized by its bold colours and intricate designs.

Madhubani Painting - Madhubani painting, originating from Bihar, India, is a traditional folk art known for its vibrant colors and intricate patterns. Artists use natural dyes and depict Hindu mythology, nature, and daily life scenes. The paintings often feature bold outlines and geometric shapes, creating a unique and visually striking style. Madhubani art has gained international recognition for its cultural richness and storytelling through vivid visuals.

Surya Dev: The Source of Life and Energy: This traditional Madhubani painting depicts Surya Dev, the Hindu Sun God of light, energy, and prosperity, seated at the center of his grand celestial chariot. Behind him, a glowing circular halo bordered with fiery rays represents the blazing power of the sun. He holds blooming lotus flowers in his upper hands as symbols of purity and nature’s vitality, while raising his lower right hand in a peaceful gesture of blessing. On either side of the chariot stand two graceful peacocks, while his charioteer sits in front guiding the way. Below them, seven intricately patterned white horses pull the chariot across stylized waves of clouds—representing the sun’s daily journey across the sky, the seven colors of light, and the seven days of the week. Framed by classic geometric borders and brought to life with rich reds, yellows, oranges, blues, and greens alongside fine black linework, this Mithila artwork celebrates the sun as the eternal source of life.
