About the workshop
Enjoy the learning Pattachitra painting "Goddess Meenakshi Embodiment of Divine Feminine Grace " using traditional motifs and techniques with national awardee artist Mr. Bhaskar Mohapatra
Pattachitra is an ancient art form from Odisha, India, dating back to the 12th century. Artists, called Chitrakars, use 100% natural colors from conch shells and minerals to create intricate paintings on various surfaces like cloth, palm leaves, wood, and jewelry. The art depicts Hindu mythological stories, particularly around Lord Jagannath, Vaishnavism, and local folk tales, reflecting Odia tradition. Evolving, Pattachitra adapted to British and European tastes in the 19th century, preserving its rich legacy with vibrant colors and intricate details, offering a captivating visual representation of Odia culture.
Goddess Meenakshi Embodiment of Divine Feminine Grace: This painting presents a striking portrayal of Goddess Meenakshi, distinguished by her verdant complexion and poised tribhanga stance. Adorned with elaborate jewelry and a richly patterned sari, she embodies divine femininity. A symbolic parrot rests gently on her extended right hand, while a lotus bud is held in her left. The artwork is framed by an ornate border and an arched backdrop, suggestive of a sacred space. Executed with bold outlines and vibrant hues of red, green, and gold, the style reflects classical South Indian artistic traditions. This depiction emphasizes the goddess's beauty, auspiciousness, and serene grace.
