About the workshop
Enjoy the learning Pattachitra painting "Lord Krishna Composite From Ram and Parshuram" using traditional motifs and techniques with national awardee artist Mr. Bhaskar Mohapatra
Pattachitra is an ancient art form from Odisha, India, dating back to the 12th century. Artists, called Chitrakars, use 100% natural colors from conch shells and minerals to create intricate paintings on various surfaces like cloth, palm leaves, wood, and jewelry. The art depicts Hindu mythological stories, particularly around Lord Jagannath, Vaishnavism, and local folk tales, reflecting Odia tradition. Evolving, Pattachitra adapted to British and European tastes in the 19th century, preserving its rich legacy with vibrant colors and intricate details, offering a captivating visual representation of Odia culture.
Lord Krishna Composite From Ram and Parshuram: This painting presents a multi-armed deity, standing on a lotus, as a composite of Lord Krishna, Ram, and Parshuram. The deity's yellow complexion and the presence of the flute are often associated with Krishna. However, the inclusion of the bow and arrow held in another pair of arms evokes imagery of Lord Ram, the heroic archer. Furthermore, the axe held in another hand is a distinct attribute of Parshuram, known for his formidable strength and weapon. The deity is adorned with traditional Indian jewelry and clothing, set against a detailed red backdrop with white floral motifs. A luminous yellow halo encircles the deity's head, and the entire composition is framed by ornate borders. This unique representation blends the iconography of three significant Hindu deities into a single, powerful form.
